RL got pretty busy this month… I’ve got an exam next week, then I hope to resume my Second Life.

Midian–I’m still out, and again, if I do come back, it probably won’t be on Amrys.

The Cat’s Meow–Look forward to a Grand Opening announcement in early/mid July 😀

DJing–I miss it.  So badly.  Hoping to get a few regular shifts outside of CM and to resume random music time.

Just downloaded and installed updated Viewer 2… And getting online 😀

Exams are over, and I’m currently in housing limbo–I’m out of the dorm, but my lease doesn’t start until later this month.  ~Sigh~  So I’m basically couch-surfing “back home,” which means that my internet access depends on how often I’m sent on errands.

HOWEVER, I plan to resume real presence iSL by the end of May!  This means resuming regular DJing hours and getting back in Midian.

Some of you may have noticed that I didn’t make my regular Friday appearance at Psychotic Neko… I was sick all day, and couldn’t make it back across the state in time to prep and DJ.  Later that night, a family member had to be taken to the hospital, and he’ll be home later today (all’s well, just a bad scare).  As it is, I’m still about an hour’s drive away from my music hard drive, and will have to leave within an hour and a half to make it at all.  I will make it; expect to see me online at Psychotic Neko (note to self: add link to link list) 2-4pm SLT today.

We’re still hiring–almost enough to start hosting events!  But we still need dancers.

I’m participating in a photo contest, and would appreciate votes 🙂  It’s 5L minimum to vote, and only one vote per day on a given person (as I understand it, you can vote for everyone, but only once each.  There are rules/instructions available on sim; I’m offworld).  The score is based on both money raised and votes–so be warned, even if you’ve already used up your vote, it’ll take your money!

Never mind that an SL store is open as soon as you put the prims out… Emerald Forest’s shopping district, Unicorn Plaza, is having a “Grand Opening” next week.  I don’t know if there’s anything planned in terms of celebration, but I encourage everyone to come check out the sim 🙂  It’s had a lot built on it since I put my little shop out.

There’s a link on my sidebar to my shop; it drops you in front of the store and right in front of the main plaza, and the bulk of the stores currently located there.

Also, if you’re looking for a place to sell your items, there are shops (some prebuilt, some empty parcels) available as well as an open air “flea market.”  At this little market, you can rent a table to put a few items on, if you’d rather not rent a full parcel or shop.

I managed to pick up ave.exe last night.  Bad timing, big time, because it meant I couldn’t DJ today 😦

FORTUNATELY, it’s fixed now.  After running a virus scan all night (er, morning.  I suck at time!), then getting help from my usual tech support crew (and finding out that OneCare is being dropped and that they were supposed to have replaced it with the new Symantec already… *facepalm*), then finally retrying some slightly modified steps that Strangeleaf found… wow.  So that’s about 15 hours gone, with nothing to show for it.

So, I’m reposting what works in case this happens to come up while someone’s searching a fix.

3. Open up the registry (start > run > regedit)
4. Search for ave.exe
5. Remove any entries for ave.exe (ave.exe ONLY)
6. In the registry go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe
7. Right Click (default) , modify
8. value = “exefile” (without the quotes & equal sign)
9. Reboot

This was found here, at the bottom.  I hadn’t changed permissions, so I could skip a few steps, and then it turned out that the file itself was hidden… and that’s REALLY hidden, since I’ve got my machine set to show hidden files.  But those steps worked.  FOR STEP 5, remove anything with ave.exe in the description–it was actually in something called “Default.”

Because of all this, I’m actually still in the land of crappy internet… so I can’t stream (I tested last night, and it hurt to listen to on the other computer here.  Shoutcast was only able to send data in huge chunks [like 10B versus 1B at a time], so it was skipping badly.)

But I’m back online and not terrified that my computer’s gonna destroy itself, so that’s a plus!

So late last night, I was working on that contest board that I mentioned last post.

Well, a friend of mine who’s in the Cat’s Meow Staff group is a lot better at scripting than I am, so I decide to try to set it up so she can edit it.

Long story short: deeding is a very bad idea.  It sets to next owner perms, which were… oh yeah.  No copy, no mod.  Transfer only.

FAIL.

Also? Live support really sucks.  I was put on hold several times, but as it’s an online chat, there’s no courtesy tone that tells you that the rep is away.  The second person I spoke with ended the conversation with “good luck!”

Gee, thanks.  Did it not occur to you that I might be more pissed off than relieved by you wishing me luck rewriting a script that I spent 3 days on already!?

So I had to start over from scratch.  Luckily, I wasn’t much farther along than that, as I’d just had to redo the whole script anyway to make the access list NC work.

The good news is… I had a backup of the object that just needed some modding, and I had a backup of the script (from right before the rewrite I was on, but hey, the variables were all there).  And so far, it’s actually cleaned up the code a little, and I’m actually farther along, in terms of testable function, than I was.  So woot.

The estimated price at this point is about L$1000, though since I’m nowhere near done, that’s a pretty damn rough estimate.  That includes a skin that can be recolored in world and a template to make your own.

I’ve moved over here from blogger.  I’m still working on getting the importer to work, so for now old posts must be viewed on the old blog.

I have opened a shop and a club, called Forever A and The Cat’s Meow, respectively.  Come check it out!  I’m currently working on making a contest board, because all the decent ones are super-expensive.  It’ll be up for sale as soon as I’ve got it working.

The Cat’s Meow is hiring!  So if you can host, dance, or DJ, come by and fill out an application.  We can’t open until we have more staff 😦

1. I’m now using the Beta Viewer. I rather like it, now that I’ve gotten used to it. When I first started, I seriously thought I was going to puke. I’m one of those people who has to have everything laid out the same for ever and ever… But at least I can get over it.

The Good:
+Looks a lot neater
+The side tab does organize pretty well
+Outfits made of links, instead of copying stuff over and over. (Finally, I can trim my inventory.. er, if I ever get a round tuit.)
+The build makes a tiny bit more sense. Hey, it’s the little things!
+FAVORITES BAR YES

The Bad:
-Minimap won’t resize anything in between Zoom Far (which is farther than I knew it could zoom) and Zoom Medium (which is too close ack!). No, I don’t use a scroll wheel, why do you ask?
-Autoaccepts inventory offers? Doesn’t do it all the time, not sure what the difference is. Apparently this can be turned off, but I don’t know how yet.
-Takes a lot of fiddling around to get it useable. But that’s just me.

The Ugly:
}I feel sort of cramped in this tiny window. The window’s the same size, but the tabs and such take up so much more space, that all I can see is myself and a tiny glimpse of the world around me. Add that to my minimap problem, and I suddenly find myself feeling VERY claustrophobic.

OVERALL, to me it’s the same thing with a slightly different layout. Whatever. I look forward to seeing what the crew on Emerald does with it.
